Sanaa Hamri is a Moroccan-American music video and film director, whose movies include “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Part 2″ with America Ferrara and “Something New” with Sanaa Lathan and Simon Baker, which earned her an NAACP Image Award nomination in 2006. Her latest feature, romantic comedy “Just Wright” is a modern-day Cinderella story starring Queen Latifah, Paula Patton (“Precious”) and Common.
Queen Latifah plays Leslie Wright, a straight-shooting physical therapist who gets the gig of a lifetime working with NBA All-Star Scott McKnight (Common). Unfortunately for Leslie, who is falling fast for the basketball star, McKnight is instead drawn to the affections of Leslie’s gorgeous cousin, Morgan (Paula Patton), who has her sights set on being an NBA trophy wife.
In an interview after completing the film “Something New”, Hamri shares what inspired her to jump from music videos to film:
“I had worked with the most artists like Prince, Sting, and Mariah Carey, and a number of other great talents and decided that right now, no pun intended, it was time to start something new. I wanted to branch out in films because I wanted to find a vehicle in which I can tell a story and send a great message as well and be entertaining”
