The old adage “April showers bring May flowers” connects with the month of April birthing this Spring season, but what will this Spring birth in you? This season is making me think of the millions of Americans who do not have food to eat, or who are offered and forced to eat inferior quality food, and those who try to make a morsel of food into a meal to feed a family. Worse yet are the vast numbers whose stomachs beat and pulsate like the sound of drums from a drill team because of hunger. I am burdened about the waste many of us help to create, and I feel challenged to do something to help those who are hungry. We must also remember that there is more than one kind of hunger that ails this great country of America…notably, spiritual, emotional and relational hunger. I don’t know about you, but I have cravings that even the best meal can’t satisfy, and hunger pains that seem to need a direct touch from the hands of The Creator. Are you hungry? If so, what will satisfy your deep rumbling appetite? Maybe you are blessed to have enough food and love to share with someone who is in need…perhaps Spring will birth a new sense of generosity.
Earth Day is this month. Remember, one of the greatest gifts you can leave behind for your children, grandchildren and others whom you love is an Earth that you have actively and personally nurtured and cared for…the magic that will save the planet rests in your heart and hands, and in mine.
