Some of my fondest memories of spending time with family are the many summer barbecues, especially the annual “End of Summer Family Picnic” at Aunt Patsy’s house on her sprawling and lush property in southern Maryland. It was a pot luck affair and my grandfather Willie Ballard always made his famous homemade lemonade and I remember his process. First you squeeze the lemons in a container
Slice and add the lemons to container
Pour on lots of sugar and ice
Then put in a cooler overnight
The next day transfer the contents to a big barrel.
Add lots of water
Add several packages of crystal light
Add more sugar and ice to perfection
*Not exactly low calorie, but very delicious!
